“Divinare II: Or, an Automated Fabrication Engineer, a Hellenic Oracle, a Corporate Trendcaster, the Founder of the LDS Church, a Quantum Physicist, a Gambler on a Hot Streak, an Italian Futurist, a Prenatal Yoga Instructor, the Village Rainmaker, the Head of Police, the Inventor of the Microchip, the Head of Creative at an Astrological Start-Up, an Eco-Theorist, and the Commander of the Canaanite Armies Walk into a Bar” is a piece for chamber orchestra with slideshow originally performed by Ensemble ISIS. It dramatizes a cast of characters who are invested in predicting the future. Musically, it explores the contradiction between the future as something predetermined and knowable vs. the future as something emergent and improvisational.
